The simplest way to refurbish old home furniture is to clean it. Oftentimes, home furniture appears to be old and worn-out due to the dirt and dust that accumulate on them through time. Cleaning wooden furniture and upholstered furniture are done in different manners. Due to the difference in material of these two types of furniture, the cleaning method and cleaning agents used are also different.

Cleaning wooden furniture can be simply done by using a cleaning soap, water, and a rug. A non-abrasive brush can also be used to dust off dirt particles that have attached in the furniture. Using a specially-designed wood cleaner, oil and wax that have accumulated on the furniture can also be removed. By applying an ample amount of the wood cleaner on a clean rug, wipe the wooden furniture with it and let it stand for several minutes. Then, clean it off with water but if there are still dirt particles, reapply the wood cleaner and repeat the same process until there are no visible traces of dirt. Make sure that when washing the wooden furniture, no traces of the wood cleaner is left on it.

In cleaning upholstered furniture, you should handle the foam and cushion with proper care so as not to damage them. You should cut off loose threads and fabric in old upholstered furniture. Using a brush, dust off the cushion and set the dust loose. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to permanently remove the dust. Using a cleaning soap, soak a piece of rug in it and rub it in areas with stains. Rinse these areas with clean water and leave it to dry.
