Maintaining clean air ducts in your home’s ventilation system is an entry in your household chore list that is usually ignored. But it is essential to realize that having clean air ducts is crucial in promoting a healthy ambience inside the home. If the air ducts in your ventilation system is full of dust, it will surely be circulated around the house which may trigger allergies and certain kinds of respiratory diseases. Employing annual maintenance services from hired cleaners can be helpful but more frequent d-it-yourself cleaning is highly valuable for assuring a healthy home.

Air ducts are relatively easy to clean even without technical expertise. A brush can be used to remove the dust that is found in the air ducts. To make the cleaning easier, you can use a small vacuum cleaner in removing the dust instead of a brush. In some hard to reach area of the air ducts where the dust accumulation has hardened, a brush or a vacuum cleaner may not be useful. Using a wet sponge, repeatedly wipe the dust that has accumulated until there are no visible dust particles. Along with the wet sponge, you can use detergent soap to disinfect the air ducts. With another wet sponge, wipe the soap away.

When the cleaned air ducts have been dried, you now change the air filters. Just remove the old air filter and change it with a new one. Just make sure that you have bought the correct size of air filter for your air ducts or you will not be able to use the new one for your ventilation system. Afterwards, do some final inspection of the air duct cleaning that you have made just to make sure that no spot has been missed.
